Private Equity Fundraising Surges in Q2; Invested Capital Totaled $108 Billion

Washington, D.C. – In the second quarter of 2014 private equity fundraising nearly doubled to $50 billion, indicating investors’ continued interest in the asset class, according to the Private Equity Growth Capital Council’s quarterly Trends Report.

Investment and exit volumes also exceeded second quarter levels over the past five and ten years, respectively.  Total invested capital reached $108 billion, while exit volume was $46 billion. In addition, the PEGCC Trends Report found that dry powder grew 7 percent, from $412 billion in March to $440 billion as of July 2014.

“Q2 proved to be another active quarter for private equity,” said Bronwyn Bailey, PEGCC Vice President of Research. “Deal volume, invested capital and exits are all trending positive year-over-year and fundraising surged to nearly $50 billion, a significant increase from the previous quarter.”

Steve Judge, PEGCC President and CEO added: “Private equity continues to boost the economy by investing in U.S.-based businesses and returning billions to investors, who help secure retirements for millions, engage in charitable pursuits, and provide financial aid to students.”

Released each quarter, the PEGCC’s Trends Report provides an analysis of key factors impacting private equity industry activity in the U.S.
