New Video: How Private Equity is Helping US Radiology Grow and Improve Access to High-Quality, Local Health Care

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Today, the American Investment Council released a new video that shows the positive impact of private equity investment in health care and features U.S. Radiology, a company backed by Welsh Carson. The video features interviews with Jodi Betts, Senior Director of Operations at U.S. Radiology, and Dr. Amy Sobel, Mammography Specialist at their partner company, Charlotte Radiology, who highlight how private equity investments have improved patient care, expanded services, and advanced technology.

“With private equity being involved with Charlotte Radiology, there’s been a lot of investment in terms of helping us to expand,” said Jodi Betts. “We are able to bring new technologies to the market, expand offices at a more rapid pace, and add staff—all made possible because of the investments by private equity.”

“One of the great things about Charlotte Radiology is that we’re set up for easy access for patients to get in. Our goal is to have patients in and out of a screening exam in about 10 minutes so that it doesn’t interrupt their day, so it makes it as easier for them to come in,”  Dr. Amy Sobel. “We have 17 centers around town and one mobile unit, and we provide screening services to approximately 130,000 women in our community yearly.”

The video spotlights how private equity is helping local care providers like Charlotte Radiology innovate and grow, benefiting the patients in North Carolina and America’s health care system. Private equity has invested nearly $1 trillion into U.S. health care since 2006. These investments have funded research into deadly diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, expanded and renovated facilities, modernized medical records and health care data, and made other needed investments.

On October 16, AIC is hosting an event in Charlotte, NC, in partnership with Punchbowl News. The event will feature conversations with Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Dr. Robert L. Mittl Jr., a neuroradiologist at Charlotte Radiology, who will discuss how private equity powers innovation that improves lives.
