The Success of Portfolio Company Outreach
In an effort to enhance the private equity brand in the minds of those who craft public policy, the PEGCC has implemented a broad-based grassroots and public affairs campaign aimed at educating Members of Congress and the media about the positive contributions that private equity makes to the American economy by relying on the personal testimony of our portfolio companies. The PEGCC has collected data from our member firms and has built a database containing 33,000 portfolio company facilities that employ over 1.6 million workers in virtually every congressional district.
We have already successfully facilitated meetings with some of the highest ranking Members of Congress whose committees of jurisdiction impact the private equity industry. In the past few weeks, we’ve met with the following Members:
- Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), Chairman of the Financial Services Committee
- Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), Super Committee Member
- Rep. Wally Herger (R-CA), Ways and Means Committee
- Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Financial Services Committee Member
- Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee
- Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Conference Chairman, Senate Finance Committee Member
- Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) Super Committee Member
- Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) Republican Whip, Super Committee Member, Finance Committee Member
This initiative will continue to be a focus for the PEGCC into next year and we need the participation of our member firms for continued success. Please contact Ken Spain or Chris Krueger at the PEGCC for more information to get involved.
